Accommodation

You will be staying with your host family and the founders of EcoCaminhos. The Bijen family lives together with their two dogs Luna and Sky. The beautiful house made of natural materials is situated on a mountain. You have the entire top floor to yourself and can enjoy the incredible view over the farm and the Atlantic rainforest from the bedroom. The homestay was built in one of the most beautiful bio-construction houses in Brazil.

Meals

You get in full board breakfast, hot lunch, afternoon snack and dinner. So look forward to delicious food with organic ingredients from our garden. If you have any allergies, intolerances, vegan or vegetarian diet, please let us know when booking so that the accommodation can prepare accordingly.

How to get there

Pick up and back to Nova Friburgo (bus station) after your stay is provided

Things to know

You will enter a farm where there are animals such as a dog and cows. A reasonably good physical condition is consequently required with us.

Activities

You can choose from different activities: Workshop on organic farming, workshop in agroforestry, hike up the mountain, scavenger hunt, workshop on baking bread, preparing a meal with ingredients from your own garden, feeding chickens and collecting eggs. In case of rain we will watch a nature documentary.

Packing list

We recommend packing the following: Sturdy shoes, sun hat, Rainproof clothing (From April - August warmer clothing for lower temperatures).

What is permaculture?

Agroforestry, is a sustainable farming system that combines trees, shrubs and agricultural crops in such a way that they complement and enhance each other. By mimicking natural forest systems, agroforestry enables efficient use of resources, protects soil from erosion and promotes biodiversity. In a country struggling with deforestation problems and biodiversity loss, agroforestry is a promising solution for Brazil to combine productivity with environmental sustainability.

What is behind bio building in Brazil?

Biobuilding refers to the use of natural, often locally available materials and techniques to create environmentally friendly and healthy living spaces. This approach reduces the ecological footprint of buildings, promotes local economies and creates a comfortable indoor environment. In the face of climate change and the growing demand for sustainable solutions, Brazil is positioning itself at the forefront of green building with biobuilding.
