Day 1: Departure from Germany
Sunglasses, camera, desire to explore: have you got everything you need? Then off you go to the airport. The plane is taxiing and the anticipation is building. Lean back, snuggle up in your seat and start dreaming of the many adventures that await you in the African wilderness. One thing is certain: this will be the trip of a lifetime!
Day 2: Three, two, one - landed: Welcome to Cape Town!
You pick up your rental car directly at the airport and jet off to your accommodation in the city. You put your feet up for a moment, but your curiosity about the city is far too great. You immediately embark on an adventure and stroll through the old harbor district along the rustic houses and cute stores. Always in view: Cape Town's icon, Table Mountain!
Day 3: Chasing Highs: Boulders Beach & Cape Point
Rugged coastlines and beautiful bays accompany you on your way to your first stop: Boulders Beach. Penguins have made their home between the granite rocks that gave Boulders Beach its name. Continue to the famous Cape Point. Once you get there, you can walk or take the small cog railroad (optional, payable on site) the last few meters up to the highest point of the cliff. From the viewing platform, you can enjoy an incredible view of the entire False Bay, Diaz Beach and the Cape of Good Hope.
Day 4: Best of Cape Town: From downtown to Table Mountain
Start with a stroll through the hip downtown area. You stroll along the Long Street party mile to the Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel - which is also affectionately known as the "Pink Lady". And the next highlight is already waiting: Table Mountain! Take the next cablecar (optional, payable onsite) to the top and enjoy the unique view of lively Cape Town against the deep blue sea. Then cross the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the Cape Wheel or the Camps Bay Beachfront off your bucket list.
Day 5: San Spirit: Game Drive through untamed nature
Do you want to gain an insight into life in South Africa? In the midst of South African nature, "Khwa ttu" gives you the opportunity to learn more about the San, one of the last hunter-gatherer peoples on earth - from the San themselves. During the game drive in an open jeep, you can discover their world up close while your guide tells you about the unique characteristics of the indigenous flora and fauna.
Day 6: Local insights: Visiting the First People
After breakfast with delicious specialties from the region, you can delve even deeper into the world of the San. You can take part in two activities of your choice. Learn about how the San deal with plants & why plants are also considered a bush pharmacy. And then? Learn more in another activity from the San - either tracking, foraging or cultural specialties.
Day 7: Sustainable living: just you and nature
After breakfast, you continue your ride. Vines, mighty mountains and dense forests - nature is so varied that you won't get bored for a second. Nestled in the middle of the wilderness, your accommodation is the perfect place to unwind. On a farm tour, you will learn about the sustainability practices of your accommodation, such as sustainable trout farming, sustainable water supply and waste management practices. After the tour, you can end the day in the water of the rock pool on your doorstep in the middle of nature.
Day 8: Karoo's Calling: Welcome to the city of ostriches!
Today you're heading out on Route 62 with its wide landscapes, winding mountain passes and wineries. In Barrydale, you make a stop at the Diesel & Crème Diner for a burger and milkshake. A gravel road then leads you to your glamping tent at AfriCamp, in the middle of nature. A fully equipped kitchen, a private bathroom and soft beds await you there. There is a fire pit in front of the veranda for cozy evenings.
Day 9: Adventure Time: Ostrich farm or Karoo Safari
The ostrich farm at your AfriCamp is a real highlight! Book a guided tour on site and get an insight into ostrich rearing (optional, payable onsite). If you are there at the right time, you can even see the chicks hatch! You should also not miss out on an afternoon safari in the Klein Karoo (optional, payable locally the day before). In the AfriCamp game reserve, a guide will accompany you through the indigenous Karoo vegetation.
Day 10: Road trip feeling: On the way to the elephants of South Africa!
Start the day with a visit to a meerkat family (optional, bookable onsite). A guide will accompany you to their caves and, of course, tell you everything you didn't know about the animals. Continue to your next accommodation, which is located in the famous Addo Elephant National Park. As soon as you step out into nature, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view and a fantastically wild soundscape!
Day 11: Addo National Park: On the road in the living room of the Big Five!
Today we are heading to Addo National Park. This was founded to save the last living elephants in the region - and successfully so! There are more than 600 of them in the park today. Here you also have the chance to see the rest of the Big Five. Once you arrive, black rhino, Cape buffalo and plains zebra roam through the bushes at a respectable distance. You drive deeper into the national park until you reach the waterholes where the elephant herds gather.
Day 12: Garden Route: The most beautiful coastal road in the world!
Today it's off to the beautiful Garden Route! You should definitely make a stopover in Tsitsikamma National Park. A hiking trail takes you along the Mouth Trail to the famous suspension bridges. You can also fly through the jungle on one of the 10 ziplines at a height of up to 30 meters (optional, payable onsite)! Drive on to Plettenberg Bay. Enjoy the sound of the ocean waves & let the day come to an end!
Day 13: Plettenberg Bay: All roads lead to the sea
There are many options at your disposal in Plettenberg. Enjoy the endless sandy beaches or embark on an adventure in the Robberg Nature Reserve. Three hiking trails lead past rugged cliffs and the roaring surf to panoramic bliss: The Gap, Witsand and The Point. The latter is the longest trail and takes you along unpaved paths - so be sure to keep an eye on the tide and your watch! All trails lead to "The Gap" first - so spontaneous changes of plan are no problem! Much more important, however, is the view of the large seal colony. With a bit of luck, you might even spot dolphins and whales!
Day 14: Stanford Hills: To the end of the Garden Route and beyond!
Before you leave the coast today, make two stops: visit the "Map of Africa" viewpoint in Wilderness and enjoy the view. Then drive to Dolphin Point on the Kaaimansrivier, where you can watch dolphins. Then head along the Garden Route, past sandy beaches, gorges and valleys, to Mossel Bay. Make another stop in Riviersonderend at the Ou Meul Bakery for sandwiches, wine and coffee. You will then reach your glamping tent in the South African countryside.
Day 15: Whale paradise: Off to Hermanus!
Today you head for the small town of Hermanus, which offers numerous restaurants, boutiques and stores. But that's not all - Hermanus is one of the world's best spots for whale watching! With a bit of luck, you can watch the sea giants in the bay - a magical moment. Sometimes they even come within 50 meters of the shore. You can even go on a kayak tour in the bay (optional, payable onsite). You have the best chance of spotting whales between June and December.
Day 16: Let the Roadtrip Begin: Stellenbosch in full blossom
Ready for the next highlight? If you haven't been wine tasting in Stellenbosch, you can't say you've ever been there! So don't hesitate and head straight for a wine tasting (optional, payable onsite). Try the Warwick Wine Estate - a real insider tip in Stellenbosch. Cheers!
Day 17: Goodbye, wonderful South Africa!
Early in the morning, it's time to pack your bags! It's time for the last drive along the roads of South Africa, because you're heading back to Cape Town! Strengthened, you drive the last few kilometers to the rental car station. Sit back, close your eyes and dream of your time of adventure in South Africa one more time. Every journey has an end, but the memories are everlasting and above all unforgettable!
Day 18: Welcome Home: So much to tell!
Welcome back home! You've spent the whole flight back reminiscing about your trip and can hardly wait to tell your friends and family about the adventure of a lifetime. South Africa will forever hold a place in your heart, that's for sure.
