Join a one-week sailing trip to protect whales and dolphins in the Mediterranean
This is what your adventure trip looks like
Become part of the expedition and research team of a local NGO for the protection and research of the behavior of whales and dolphins in the Mediterranean.
The stay is dedicated to research activities. You will assist with data collection and sailing activities. The animals are located using sound recognition and slowly approached. Participants and researchers take turns observing each other every hour until dolphins or whales are sighted. During the sightings, your task is to film, collect behavioral data, record sounds and take photographs to identify the animals. This data forms the basis for future protected areas and populations. The photos are then compared with the database and any new animals are named and documented. In the evening, the boat is moored in the port of Ischia so that you can explore the land. You will spend the nights on board the sailing ship Jean Gab. The ship offers spacious exterior and comfortable interior spaces for the crew. The kitchen with large windows is the meeting point for cooking and eating together. Below deck is the sleeping area for up to 6 participants (three beds on one side of the ship and three on the other). Each side can be separated by curtains. Sleeping on deck in good weather is also possible. You can also take a hammock with you. For guests who want more privacy, it is possible to stay in a hotel nearby (at an extra charge). Please contact us before booking. The crew cooks together every day. Skipper Angelo is an excellent cook and usually spoils the crew with fresh Italian food. The cost of meals is not included and is shared at the end of the stay. This is approximately €30 per person per day for full board. Please inform us in good time of any food intolerances,
