About Project Wings

Project Wings is a young non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to fighting three of the world's biggest problems - species extinction, rainforest deforestation and the ongoing flood of plastic. To this end, the organization is building the world's largest plastic waste recycling village in Indonesia.

It all started with one goal: to build the largest recycling village in the world. In the meantime, we have created a holistic project that combines humanitarian aid with nature and animal protection.

What impact does Project Wings create?

According to the motto "Find a way, not an excuse," Project Wings makes use of plastic waste to build its houses, among other things - from so-called Ecobricks. The intention behind this is to clean up nature, but also to create sustainable awareness locally and beyond.

Locals have the opportunity to collect and hand in plastic waste and receive a hot meal or money in return. Plastic thus receives an equivalent value and helps people earn an additional income. The goal is to remove a total of around 250 tons of plastic waste from nature and isolate it in the walls.

In the long term, Project Wings aims to expand education and awareness in environmental issues especially for young people and the completion of the village. In addition, the position of women in the Organization is emphasized and strengthened with managerial functions.

Consequently, through its project work, the village strives to achieve Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and Goal 13 (Climate Change Mitigation Measures).

What does revenue through socialbnb mean for Project Wings?

Through overnight stays booked via our socialbnb platform, we were able to generate USD 793.90 for Project Wings in Indonesia. Half of the money was used for the restoration of a bejak - an Indonesian garbage vehicle. With this vehicle, waste management on the island can be improved and more trash cans can be distributed in the eco-village.

In addition, recycling machines were repaired and the processing of waste made possible. The other half of the money goes to the maintenance of the volunteer camp on site and finances, among other things, materials for renewal or catering.
